THREE WAYS TO ENHANCE YOUR LEADERSHIP
/“All growth depends upon activity. There is no development physically or intellectually without effort, and effort means work.” - Calvin Coolidge
The greatest leaders are always attempting to better themselves and the people around them. You have to be at your best if you want to reach the best. And the only way you can be at your best is by consistent being better.
My father and mother taught me to always be the best I could be. I didn’t matter how big or small the task, my parents wanted be to commit to being the best version of myself at that time. I still hold true to these values to this day. I am passing these same principles down to my boys. We were created to do some amazing things, but we cannot achieve if we don’t believe in the need to constantly get better.
What would you like to enhance? What are you trying to achieve?
As John Maxwell would say, “Everything rises and falls on leadership.” There is nothing wrong with failing because you have to fail to succeed. Many of the greatest leaders ever to live failed to their success. However, as leaders we have to rise. We have to enhance our leadership skills and abilities. Here 3 ways to enhance your leadership.
1. Invest in yourself.
We invest in many things as it pertains athletics, technology, money, and more. But the most important investment we can make is in ourselves. This investment needs to be made daily. It may sound selfish, but it is a selfless act if your reason for investing in yourself is to help someone else.
Investing in yourself also means making smart decisions of how you want to expand and grow your mind. Whatever you do, don’t invest in anything that will not benefit you and others. Positively investing in yourself doesn’t compare to any other investment you have made or will make because investing in yourself has the greatest return on your investment.
2. Embrace silence.
Silence is golden. Finding quiet time allows us to disconnect from all distractions and focus our minds on those things that matter most. I speak about these things in my The Power of I.F. (Intentional Focus) - 8 Essentials Words for Living Your Best Life eBook.
In our world today, silence is somewhat abnormal with computers, televisions, smart phones, and all of our other smart devices. The Huffington Post discovered in a research study that “many young adults spend a third of their waking lives on their device.” The results also revealed, “A lot of smartphone use seems to be habitual, automatic behaviors that we have no awareness of.” Without meditation, it will be hard to develop awareness. And it is so important to have awareness to enhance your leadership.
3. Increase your awareness.
A leader is always aware. It doesn’t mean that he or she knows everything. On the contrary, a good leader understands the need for constant sharpening of his or her awareness.
Awareness is having knowledge, understanding, and discernment. A leader is a able to powerfully but more importantly effectively lead when they are informed when making decisions.
So why is it so important to increase your awareness?
Chinese philosopher and writer Lao Tzu said, “The key to growth is the introduction of higher dimensions of consciousness into our awareness.”
Don’t settle for anything less than your best, especially when it comes to your leadership. Remember your leadership is the foundation of everything you do. So make a commitment to enhancing your leadership by using some of these strategies.
