TRUST THE PROCESS

What does your track record look like when it comes to getting things done?

There is nothing fun about failing.  I know the feeling very well.  Matter of fact, I have failed many times.  I have had an abundance of success and I enjoy being successful.  However, my failures have been my greatest source of learning and development.  I had to come to the realization that many of my failures happened because I didn’t trust the process.

What aspirations do you have?  All of us are trying to go places.  But how do you plan on getting there?  Are you trusting the process?

I want you to help you achieve your dreams.  Try these three simple strategies:

1.    Plan Well.

We are more than half way through this year.  I had to ask myself if I am on pace to meet all my annual goals?  There are some goals I need to be more serious about accomplishing.  But this is only possible if you have set goals.  If you have not set any goals, how do you keep score of where you are with achieving your dreams?

Businessman and well-known author on personal time management Alan Lakein said, “Planning is bringing the future into the present so that you can do something about it now.”  I get really excited when I see people thriving and accomplishing their goals because it is an indication of someone who has planned well and trusted the process.

2.    Stop Planning and Act.

Have you heard of “the ready-aim-aim-aim-aim syndrome?”  American business magnate and financier Thomas Boone Pickens, Jr. coined this syndrome.  T. Boone Pickens said, “Be willing to make decisions.  That’s the most important quality in a good leader.  Don’t fall victim to what I call the ready-aim-aim-aim-aim syndrome.  You must be willing to fire.”

At some point, you have to act.  What needs action in your life?  Most people have at least one or two great ideas in them that could remarkably change their lives for the better.  But I have learned the difference from the successful and unsuccessful is the successful person’s willingness to act on their great ideas.  Have you become a professional planner?  Well, it’s time to add action to your planning.

3.    Patiently Work

There are some people waiting for success to fall into their laps.  I hate to be a bearer of bad news, but you are going to be waiting for a long time for this to happen.  All of my successful accomplishments came while I was patiently working.

I love what the entertainer Simon Cowell said, “My dad said to me, ‘Work hard and be patient.’  It was the best advice he ever gave me.  You have to put the hours in.”  You have heard the phrase, “Work smart, not hard.”  Successful people aren’t afraid to work smart or hard.  We will do anything to get the job done and our goals accomplished.  Are you patiently working?

There are many other ways to be successful.  Some people are searching for short cuts.  If you practice these simple strategies, you will experience true success that will never fade.
