Take Time to Disconnect

If you have a job, you are grateful because of the high unemployment rates in the past few years.  You may not be completely satisfied with your job, but you know having a job means you are able to pay the bills.

Most working individuals have either paid time off or vacation time.  Every year, employers offer their employees on average 9-14 days of PTO or vacation time per salary.com.

I’ve always been one to promote work.  I believe the words from 2 Thessalonians 3:10, “The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat.”  I believe there are only a few reasons why a person shouldn’t  work.  However, what is work if you cannot have a a little fun?

In addition, we are always talking on our cell phones, checking our emails, texting, or on our social media accounts.  Can you imagine going one day without any of these?

Multitasking, constant distractions, and responsibility overload has become a normal way of life.

It may be time to disconnect.

When I’m easily distracted or get a overall feeling of being swamped, it’s time for me to disconnect.

Do you know when it’s time for you to disconnect?

Whether you believe it or not, everyone needs to disconnect.

Here are 6 ways to disconnect:

1. Read a book.  When we read (depending on the book), it can create a calming influence for you.

2. Take a walk, run, or ride.  There is nothing like enjoying the beautiful creativity of God while getting a mixture of exercise and fresh air.

3. Turn off your phone, computer, or TV.  Get away from these devices and get some fresh air.

4. Establish a stress-free zone.  Create a place that will be free of any distractions.

5. Take a break.  It may be taking a few minutes away from work or you may need a few days, but take some time to rejuvenate and refresh your mind.

6. Set boundaries.  Set a time limit for when you will check or expose yourself to the technology you own.

When you are able to disconnect, you will discover your self living a more productive and prosperous life.
