3 MOMENTOUS DECISIONS EVERY LEADER SHOULD MAKE

What are the most important decisions you have to make as a leader?

There are many decisions you have to make as a leader, but there are three momentous decisions every leader should make.

1.    Decide to be family-oriented.

How important is family?

My heart hurts because my grandmother passed two Saturday’s ago.  This past weekend my family and I shed many tears of joy as we celebrated her life.  It was amazing hearing the many stories of her influencing and impacting our world with her deep sense of love for family.

In my fleeting life, I am constantly reminding myself of the importance of family.  I know this may sound cliché, but life is short.  Why am I saying this?  Some leaders get so wrapped up in their business that they forget about one of the most important things in life, which is family.  Make your family a priority.  How would you like to have all the success you want with no one to share it with?

Your life will feel more meaningful when you make the decision to be more family-oriented.

2.    Decide to be relational.

At the end of the day, life is all about relationships.  For this reason, leadership effectiveness is either galvanized or devalued by the way we handle relationships.

Relationships are the foundation to leadership.  If you cannot relate well with people, then you really cannot call yourself a leader.  I love the quote by leadership expert John C. Maxwell when he said, “People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.”

In all my positions of leadership, deciding to be relational has been the biggest key to any of my success.  Without deciding to be relational, more than likely people won’t follow you.  Are you a relational leader?

It is worth you working on being more relational because, people will determine you level of influence and effectiveness as a leader by the way you develop relationships.

3.    Decide to be part of a team.

If you are a leader, you are never alone.  Another great quote by John C. Maxwell is, “He who thinks he leads, but has no followers, is only taking a walk.”

Who is on your team?  Any leader who has accomplished anything great had the help of a team.  We form teams because there are goals and dreams we want to accomplish that we cannot be achieved on our own.

I grew up playing the game of basketball, but now I play more golf than anything these days.  Both of these sports are highly competitive, but they both are quite different.  Obviously, basketball is more of a team sport.  I learned many lessons from playing on a team.  But the most important lesson I learned is that no one person can do it alone.  Deciding to be part of a team helps you go beyond your capabilities by bringing in talented people with unique skill sets.  We all are in need of a team.

These are three momentous decisions every leader should make daily.  Making these three decisions will take your success to another level because you will have the right people around you to succeed.
